Summer Working Party – Saturday 13th June

Just a reminder that Martyn will be leading a Summer Working Party on Saturday 13th June. Main work is finishing the non slip covering to the jetty and painting the windows of the clubhouse. Please come along if you can ‘many hands make light work’ as the saying goes.

Also there is NO SAILING on that same day, Saturday 13th as there is a fishing match. It is written in the fixtures list, please abide by this.

Topper and Comet Open

Last Saturday we welcomed Topper and Comet sailors to the club for their annual open event. The weather was very blustery and not for the faint hearted! Everyone enjoyed the day and it was a pleasure to see all the youngsters out on the water as well as the more seasoned comet sailors. Some pictures of the prize giving kindly sent by Mike Jones.

Gilmer Trophy

Firstly a reminder that there is no Club sailing this Sunday (19th April) as we are hosting the Gilmer Trophy which is a team event between Bristol Avon Sailing Club (BASC) and Shearwater SC. There are 10 boats from each club involved. It promises to be good spectator sport so if you’d like to come along and support us please do.

Tuesday Evening Sailing
Now the evenings are getting lighter it will soon be time for the popular Tuesday evening sailing. It kicks off with race 1 of the Putty Trophy on the 28th April. An evening meal/drink at the pub often follows, so it is a good social time too.

When we host events, we are often in need of help in the galley, either making cakes or meals of some sort. If you are happy to help out on occasion then please let Clive Chapman (house committee) know.

News and Events – February 2015

News
A busy month ahead as we prepare for the 2015 sailing season. The committee met a few weeks ago and I am pleased to report that Lease Negotiations with the Longleat Estate are well underway and are looking good for 2015. Many thanks to Chris Mulholland, who is our chief negotiator.
This year we will be self printing the Fixtures Booklet and as those of you who have already joined will know, it will be available in the ‘Members Post Box’ at the club house, along with boat stickers etc., from the 7th February (the first working party). Using this method of getting mail out has cut down our postage bill considerably so please remember to check the box when you are at the club.
I have been asked about membership forms by a few members, they are available on this website, and I have also attached renewal forms (including licence) to the February Newsletter email which you should all have received. Please contact me if you haven’t received this email as it means either we have an incorrect email address for you, or you have been missed of the mailing list.  Don’t forget to licence your boat with Longleat, especially is you want to sail at the first thrash which is only a few weeks away – 1st March 2015 (I may even make some Welsh cakes as it is St David’s Day!) On the subject of licences, we asked the estate if there was the possibility of the second boat fee being reduced … this is in negotiation now and I will let you know as soon as possible.
