Bart’s Bash Results

Shearwater’s results are now posted on the Bart’s Bash website @ www.bartsbash.co.uk/results. Please note these results are based upon ‘The Bart Number’ handicap system rather than a PY number. Bart’s Bash 2 will be held on Sunday 20th September 2015.

Bart’s Bash Update Following Shearwater’s Event

A big thank you to all who competed and those who helped make Shearwater’s Bart’s Bash such a great event today. A total of 20 dinghies entered and a sum of £105 in voluntary entry fees was raised together with a further £14 in cakes sales thanks to the efforts of Pat Jones and Christine Langley. All funds raised will go to the work of the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.
Shearwater results data will be submitted on-line within the next 24 hours for Bart’s Bash with overall positions being published on www.bartsbash.co.uk when all results from clubs taking part are in. This may take some time given the numbers.
In the meantime we can announce our own results for Shearwater based upon an Average Lap Race as follows:
1st Jack Langley
2nd Chris Mulholland
3rd Mike Dickins
1st Lady Helm Yvonne Smith
1st Youth Fraser Jones

Bart’s Bash Sunday 21st September 2014 @ 11am

Next Sunday 21st September 2014 is Bart’s Bash, one race starting at 11am. This is an Open Event so Members and Non Members alike are welcome. Please make this a success. You can register on-line to race at Shearwater at www.bartsbash.co.uk/race-entries or at the Club on the day.

Please do not be put off registering on-line when asked to open an account as no credit card or other financial information will be requested just your address and dinghy class details. A number of Members have been put off the registration process due to the word ‘account’ being used.

Blue-Green Algae Update 30th August 2014

We have now been informed by the Environment Agency that the latest testing of the water at Shearwater  has shown numbers of the Blue-Green Algae (Microcystis) below the threshold level where they advise land owners to take precautions. As the levels detected have been below the threshold for three consecutive weeks of testing the Environment Agency do not plan to continue with weekly testing.

Although weekly testing will not continue Blue-Green Algae has been detected and the Environment Agency have asked us to remain vigilant and should the presence of scum be detected then we should advise them accordingly.

On the basis of the above information the Club considers it is now appropriate to lift the age restriction on those sailing but advise Members to continue to take sensible precautions.

For your information we attach a further copy of the information leaflet produced by the RYA.

Sailing is an “Assumed risk, water contact sport” that may carry risks. Members should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement.

Should you wish to discuss any of the above further then please do let me know.
